What's Your Motivation?
Matthew 6:1-2 “Take heed that you do not do your charitable deeds before men, to
be seen by them. Otherwise you have no reward from your Father in heaven. 2
Therefore, when you do a charitable deed, do not sound a trumpet before you as
the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may have glory
from men. Assuredly, I say to you, they have their reward".
What is the motivation behind your actions? Actions can look good but the
motivation behind the action can be sour. If two Christians give one million
dollars to a charitable organization and one stays anonymous but the other makes
it known on T.V. what do you think the motivation behind the giving is? Is it
God-glorification or self-glorification? The actions are the same but the
motives differ tremendously. Whatever rewards you get from man will very much
pale in comparison to what God longs to give you. Are we laying up treasures on
earth that are temporary and decaying or are we laying up treasures in heaven
that are eternal? A pat on the back or applause lasts only a very short time and
then is gone but God wants to bless us in eternal ways that are beyond our
wildest imagination! Let us ask ourselves regularly…Are my motives pure?...Who
am I glorifying?...Where are my treasures being laid up?
